In an effort to bring the Bloomington community and IU students together in commemoration of the tragic events of 9/11, the Clayton Anderson Band will play a tribute concert at 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Bluebird nightclub.
The band’s lead singer and guitarist, Clayton Anderson, said he believes music has the power to unite individuals across all divides.
“Music is a national language,” he said. “Everyone can relate to music.”
While various events are being held around Indiana in honor of the lives lost by the tragic events of 9/11, the location of this concert is expected to resonate well with IU students and the community.
“We always like to think of the Bluebird as an important community gathering place for IU students and Bloomington people alike,” said Dave Kubiak, owner of the Bluebird. “It’s kind of a melting pot of all the different types of people in Bloomington.”
The 9/11 tribute show will take on a special theme of “celebrating America and the country we love so much,” Anderson said.
“I’d rather celebrate something in remembrance than be sad,” Anderson said.
Graduate student Hana Ros plans on attending the show, not only for the great music, but also to express her pride in America and solidarity with the individuals affected by 9/11.
“I think music is a therapeutic tool that will always help bring people together in remembrance of national events,” Ros said.
