Woman angry after tear gas fired into her home

ANDERSON – A central Indiana woman said she was left homeless after a police SWAT team fired tear gas into her house, trying to force out a fugitive who wasn’t inside.

Mary Williams said she gave Anderson officers permission to use a search dog inside her rental home as they looked for her boyfriend’s son, who faces arrest warrants on armed robbery and drug charges.

She said officers never searched the house but instead waited outside for a couple hours Wednesday evening before firing the tear gas canisters through several windows. She said the gas ruined her clothes and belongings.

Anderson Police Department Sgt. Bill Casey said the department had reliable information that the fugitive was at the house and armed. He said Williams refused to allow a search dog inside the house.
