Police out en masse for Welcome Week

The Bloomington Police Department will have extra officers working the evening and nighttime hours due to students returning to campus, according to a press release.

Officers will be focusing on excessive noise under the Quiet Nights initiative that began in 2001, according to the release.

Most occurrences are at off-campus parties where underage drinking is involved, according to the release.

The patrols will begin immediately, and no date is set for when the extra enforcement will end, according to the release.

“The beginning of the new school year gives us an opportunity to establish what it means to be a part of this community, which includes abiding by existing laws and ordinances,”
BPD Chief Michael Diekhoff said in the release. “It sets the tone early for how we will enforce various laws and ordinances throughout the academic term.”
