MAUCKPORT, Ind. – The Indiana Attorney General’s office seized 240 dogs from a southern Indiana breeding operation accused of failing to pay sales tax.
About 60 volunteers from the Humane Society of the United States helped confiscate the dogs Tuesday at the Breezy Valley Dairy Farm in Mauckport after investigators served a search warrant.
Officials said a tax jeopardy assessment of about $132,000 was filed against 63-year-old owner Virginia Garwood and her 26-year-old daughter Kristen Garwood alleging unpaid sales and income taxes related to animal sales.
No criminal charges have been filed.
A woman who answered the phone at a number listed for Virginia Garwood said she had no comment Tuesday night.
Attorney General Greg Zoeller said the women are not registered to do business in Indiana and have never paid sales taxes in the state.
