From the editors

A lot of chatter, a little bit of insight

Q: What were you afraid of before coming to IU?
Sara: Making friends. Starting over. I got comfortable after four years in high school.
Allie: I think I was afraid of not fitting in here. I didn’t know many people coming in.

Q: Where did you live?
Sara: Eigenmann.
Allie: Collins.

Q: Have you changed since coming here four years ago?

Sara: I think so. I’m a little more understanding now. I’ve mellowed out. I had never left the east coast before college. It was definitely a different experience for me.
Allie: I think I’ve changed a lot. I was always reserved in high school. I saw a lot of people get into trouble, so I just kept my head down and followed the rules.

Q: What was your best freshman memory?
Sara: Moving in. Everyone was so new. Everyone was going through the same thing as you. It definitely wasn’t gaining 15 pounds.
Allie: Meeting my friends. We all lived together in Collins. They were my neighbors, and we just clicked. I’m really lucky because I still have that exact group of friends four years later.

Q: What was your first class?
Sara: I had calculus, and it was four credit hours, and I missed it. It was at 8 a.m. and when I got there, there was a sign on the door that said a class was canceled, but it was for another class.
Allie: I had J110, the intro to journalism class in Rawles Hall on Monday morning. I still remember that.

Q: What was your most embarrassing freshman moment?
Sara: I fell down the stairs at Assembly Hall. I was in the balcony during a basketball game and I slipped and bounced down the stairs.
Allie: I think anything that made me feel like a freshman, or like I didn’t know what I was doing was embarrassing for me.

Q: What was the biggest surprise about college?
Sara: The whole experience was a surprise to me. The biggest was that I was able to do things on my own. Now, I hate relying on other people.
Allie: Maybe at how often I would see people I knew. It still surprises me how often I run into people here.
