West side bank robbed today

A thief fled the Members Choice Federal Credit Union bank this afternoon with a sack of cash.

Emergency dispatchers received a call at 12:53 p.m. today that the bank, 520 W. Patterson Drive, had just been robbed, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Jeff Canada said.

The suspect entered the bank and approached the first teller, Canada said. He then gave her a bag and told her to put cash in it. The teller complied, and the man fled the scene, running northwest on Patterson Drive, Canada said.

The suspect is described as a black male, between six-feet and six-feet two inches tall, wearing a dark-hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and a mask that covered his face, only showing his nose and eyes, Canada said.

Witnesses working outside nearby the bank told police they saw the man exit the bank and start running. After they saw stray cash fly out of the thief’s bag, they followed him. The witnesses were able to see the man get into a red, newer model, small-sized SUV, Canada said.

Members Choice bank is closed for the rest of the day.

Police are asking anyone with any information about this robbery to contact BPD Det. Chris Ryan at 349-3320.
