Man found dead in gas station lot

A 43-year-old man was pronounced dead early Friday morning after he was found in the parking lot of a gas station, said Bloomington Police Department Lt. Jimmy Ratcliff, reading from a police report.

Officers found the man unconscious at 4:13 a.m., Ratcliff said. The police report described a man lying face down in the parking lot of an abandoned gas station in the 3000 block of East Third Street.

Officer Tracy Headley arrived at the scene and found the man lying next to a backpack and a bottle of alcohol, Ratcliff said. Headley checked for a pulse twice but didn’t find one, Ratcliff said. Bloomington Hospital Ambulance Service arrived and transported the man to the emergency room, where he was pronounced dead at 5:12 a.m.

Police are not releasing the name of the man until the family is located and notified. No foul play is suspected, Ratcliff said.
