Rep. Baron Hill will attend a health care summit today at the White House. The summit, which was similar to the fiscal responsibility summit held last week, will give attendees an opportunity to discuss health care issues in the U.S.
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, an organization that tracks health care data, more than 732,256 people in Indiana are uninsured. Nationwide there are more than 45 million uninsured.
Katie Moreau, spokesperson for Hill, said one of his main goals is to find a way to expand health care. While programs like Medicaid and Medicare exist, Hill is still looking at all options.
Moreau said Hill has not yet signed any bills because, “He wants to find the best way to expand health care.”
Rural health care is a major issue for Hill, and he has looked into programs to entice physicians to practice in rural areas, such as loan forgiveness programs.
The summit will be broadcast on C-SPAN at 1 p.m. today.
