A Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender club will have a call-out meeting at the IU Kelley School of Business to support members of the GLBT community in the business environment.
The organization, Out at Kelley, will conduct the meeting at 5:30 p.m. today in BU 736. Out at Kelley’s primary focus is business-minded students, and the group will provide social and networking opportunities as well as professional experiences, according to an IU press release. The spark that set this organization into motion is attributed to Gen. Peter Pace’s controversial comments on homosexuality and his receiving of Kelley’s Poling Chair award.
The GLBT organization wants to collaborate with Kelley to help gays and lesbians feel comfortable in the business world, said Out at Kelley secretary Cory Hawkins.
Hawkins, who is openly gay, said he’s “been worried” about how he will be treated in the business environment as a sports marketing major.
However, treatment is not necessarily harsh.
“I have a list of 30 companies that not only don’t care if you’re gay, but are looking for gay people to hire,” said Out at Kelley president Wayne Levinson.
This could be some people’s first gay function, Hawkins said.
“We want to entice some people,” he said.
