FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Fort Wayne officials say it will take longer than expected to fix a 30-foot deep sinkhole that's closed a street near the city's downtown since the weekend.
City Utilities spokesman Frank Saurez says Anthony Boulevard just east of downtown will remain closed at least until the middle of next week, instead of reopening by the end of this week.
The 12-by-15 foot hole opened up Sunday.
Police say a woman was injured when the road collapsed as she was driving over it, causing the air bags in her vehicle to deploy. The woman was taken to a hospital with neck pain.
Crews had to dig down about 30 feet to reach a collapsed 125-year-old brick sewer pipe that caused the crater to form.
