Bloomington’s west side location of Copper Cup closed last week due to bad location and the economy, said owner Dean Foster.
Despite the trouble, however, Foster said Bloomington’s two locations near campus will remain open.
The decision was made about a month ago, and the store, previously located at 1350 W. Bloomfield Road, officially closed Feb. 1, Foster said.
Copper Cup, a locally-owned coffee shop, has been a Bloomington presence for seven years, but the west side location has only been open since fall 2005.
“It just wasn’t easy for people to get in and out for coffee,” Foster said, adding that a recent median in the road made it difficult for people to turn left into the shop. “Sure, the economy affected it some ... The development over there didn’t happen as fast as we had hoped.”
Foster said closing the store was a matter of being “fiscally responsible” and closing a shop that wasn’t churning enough profit.
“Sales declined some, but overall the location was just pretty flat from the start,” Foster said. “It just kind of didn’t really get off the ground.”
