That’s change?

WE SAY Obama’s apologies overshadow Daschle’s character flaws.

President Obama might have learned his first lesson in judging character this past week.

Tom Daschle, Obama’s first nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services, withdrew his nomination after he failed to pay more than $140,000 in back taxes.

There is no doubt in our minds that the President’s critics will point their fingers and say, “I told you so.” But we aren’t too sure that we should be so quick to judge.

It’s easy to argue that President Obama screwed up. The mistake shouldn’t have been made in the first place. But the way he handled the situation restores our faith in him.

We think that by making an example of Daschle, Obama is showing his administration that even though they might think they’re above the law, they really aren’t. This message might have been lost in past administrations, and it’s nice that someone is upholding it.

Even President Obama knows he messed up. But we elected President Obama because we believe in him.

The transparency in his administration makes us believe that even though he fumbled this time, it’s more important that he has shown a willingness to admit his mistakes. We look forward to a less self-righteous administration.
