Praising 'Comeback conservatism'

As a member of the retired Bloomington community who reads the IDS, you can imagine that some of us have mixed emotions in reading the newspaper. This is true of any newspaper because of many factors: the nature of the newspaper, the people who write the newspaper, the community in which the newspaper is printed, and, of course, the change in the nature of the news from day to day.

In any event, I want to congratulate you and your staff on publishing the article “Comeback conservatism” in the edition of Feb. 17. The scholarship of the article, I thought, was impeccable. With that in mind, it doesn’t matter whether someone “agrees” with the author, one is just happy that the author has devoted serious time to researching and reflecting the topic. I was also equally impressed with the layout of the article; it is so seldom that we reflect on what is communicated with the whiteness of the page in our fury to communicate with the black.

Again, thank you and your staff for courageous journalism. Some of us appreciate your efforts when you do!
