The Bloomington Faculty Council passed a resolution last Tuesday that legitimized its regret for the way the Kelley School of Business awarded Gen. Peter Pace with the Poling Chair.
Gen. Pace had caused significant controversy during his October visit to campus when students, faculty and alumni became aware of his history of making public remarks that called into question the moral standing of gay and lesbian people.
While the Bloomington Faculty Council’s resolution is not a sanction against the Kelley School, it is significant as it reaffirms IU’s commitment to diversity.
The Editorial Board hopes the resolution will stand out as a reminder to administrators that publicly denigrating the GLBT community is not a quality with which our campus wishes to be associated.
Council makes right choice
WE SAY Finding fault with Kelley School’s decision sets progressive precedent.
