Bedford man charged with molestation

A local man was arrested for child molestation after his alleged actions were reported to police Feb. 12.

Loren Jewell, 34, faces preliminary charges for child molestation, a Class A felony, criminal deviant conduct and a Class B felony.

Bloomington Police Department officers were contacted Feb. 12 by a family member of the victim stating information that Jewell molested the juvenile.

The caller said she learned the information from another family member in whom the victim confided. The victim is now 16, but reported being molested by Jewell since the age of nine or 10.

Bloomington Police Department Detective Kevin Hill and Child Protective Services interviewed the female victim, who gave police a very detailed description of the molestation, BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from a police report.

Police located Jewell in his Bedford residence and took him to the Bedford Police Department for interviewing. Jewell confessed to molesting the girl, telling police a story that matched the victim’s testimony.

Jewell was charged and transported to the Monroe County jail.
