Indianapolis man threatens party-goers with gun

A man recently admitted into the U.S. Army was arrested Sunday morning for pointing a handgun at party-goers, according to a police report.

Demetrius Armani George, 21 of Indianapolis, faces preliminary charges of false reporting or informing to police, intimidation, carrying a handgun without a permit and pointing a firearm.

BPD officers were dispatched at 12:16 a.m. Sunday to the Circle K gas station at the corners of Third Street and Indiana Avenue on reports of a male pointing a handgun at party-goers.

The party-goers told BPD officer Tracy Headley that they were at a party at 424 S. Fess Ave. for about 15 minutes when a male approached them and told them they had to leave because this was a party being thrown for George, Canada said, reading from a police report.

George then came up to them and told them to leave and pointed a handgun at them, Canada said. The party-goers told police that some other people at the party got between George and them to try to break up the disagreement and stop the use of the handgun, Canada said. When the people tried to restrain George, he began waving his handgun in the air, Canada said.

BPD officer Jim Batcho went to the party and spoke with George. George told police he did not display a handgun, but that he did possess one and it was upstairs underneath a mattress. Police asked if they could have the gun, and George let the police go upstairs and get it. The handgun was a 40-caliber automatic.

George told police his friends were throwing him a party because he joined the Army and was leaving for basic training in the near future, and the argument stemmed from something concerning a high school girlfriend.

George was arrested and booked in the Monroe County jail.
