Ash borer found in Monroe County

INDIANAPOLIS – The tree-killing emerald ash borer has been found in Monroe County.

The Department of Natural Resources says the presence of the invasive green beetle has been confirmed in the county’s Polk Township.

Since 2004, the ash borer has been found in 21 Indiana counties, only three of which in southernIndiana.

Large infestations of the insect have killed millions of ash trees in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana since 2002.

The DNR has imposed a quarantine, prohibiting the transportation of wood from ash trees from infected areas.
