Cubasis – a computer program for mixing digital music. It comes with virtual instruments and professional effects, including analog synthesizer emulations, virtual electric and acoustic guitars and a drum machine.

Ableton – a brand of computer software that specializes in programs for mixing live music. The company makes instrument-sampling programs and software for recording, songwriting, remixing and DJing.

Pro Tools – software widely used by professional musicians that includes tools for recording, editing and mixing.

SM57 – microphone model with a 40 to 15,000 Hz frequency response. Known for its clean sound, reliability and affordable cost. Also the brand of microphone that sits atop the presidential lectern.

Digidesign – the company that manufactures and distributes Pro Tools as well as the ICON digital console and VENUE live sound-production equipment.

Garage Band – software program specifically for Apple products. It is part of Apple’s iLife suite and comes standard on every new Macbook.
