New exit ramp opens in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – A new exit ramp opened from Interstate 65/70 into downtown Indianapolis, replacing a ramp that was built to accommodate traffic for the long-demolished Market Square Arena.

The exit ramp to Washington Street opened at 6 a.m. Monday. The city is removing the old ramps in an effort to spur investment in the area on the eastern side of downtown.
The old ramps were built in the 1970s to carry traffic to and from Market Square Arena, where the Indiana Pacers once played and Elvis Presley performed his last concert. The arena was demolished in July 2001.
