You can learn a lot from New York

Welcome New York students! Having lived in your state for 30 years, happily and productively though being a native Hoosier, I am familiar with both. I lived all over Manhattan during the early years of my career. As a young girl, provincial and unsophisticated, N.Y.C. might have swallowed me. Such was not the case. Not only did it accept me – it gave me space and I was happy.

Wake up Hoosiers and Midwesterners! You just might learn something from these Easterners. An article from the Times indicates a disgusting and disappointing intolerance directed at them! I have news for you – tight jeans and a different accent is precious little to hang on them. A Midwest accent isn’t exactly music to the ears. Also, the vocabulary and grammar of these new arrivals will win hands down. They might even correctly use “I saw” rather than “I seen.”

So move over and put a Band-Aid over your mouths – if you’re lucky, they won’t laugh at you.
