The name of G-d

In Wednesday’s opinion column “Palin vs. the Press,” the article mentioned the issue of Israel’s security with respect to Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

The columnist followed Palin’s comment with the words, “In the famous words of Abraham Lincoln, ‘Let us hope that we’re all on the side of (inserted the name of God.)’” Aside from the fact that Palin’s similar sentiment and Lincoln’s original statement were both misquoted, DJ Funkhouser’s use of the ineffable Hebrew name of G-d was highly inflammatory and offensive.

To many Orthodox Jews, this name is too sacred to be pronounced, let alone to be denigrated by being casually used in political satire.
