In a letter to the NCAA released today, the IU Athletics Department denied that it failed to monitor the IU men’s basketball program’s recruiting practices.
IU today released its response in letter form to the NCAA’s “failure to monitor” allegation leveled against the IU men’s basketball program in June.
The response contests that because the NCAA enforcement staff — a professional investigative staff — did not include a failure to monitor charge that the NCAA should not have either.
The response also insists that IU did in fact keep tabs on former IU coach Kelvin Sampson and his assistants, pointing to the fact that they reported potential violations to the NCAA themselves as proof.
“The University, in short, did the right thing,” the report reads.
