It is fitting that Justin P. Hill is the chairman of Students for John McCain. He, just like Senator John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, totally switches his positions and expects nobody to notice. Last year Hill wrote an entire column in the Indiana Daily Student criticizing McCain for being a liberal. Hill wrote, “McCain only votes conservative on abortion and the military.” Hill even wrote that if McCain was the Republican nominee running against Barack Obama that Obama would win the presidency. So apparently the chairman of the Students for John McCain group doesn’t even think that John McCain will beat Barack Obama.
I guess switching your positions on the issues is a criterion for being in this group. Hill switched his position on McCain, just like McCain switched his positions on the Bush tax cuts. McCain was against them because he knew they wouldn’t be good for the economy. Then, when he ran for his party’s nomination for president, he switched. Hill even points this out in his original column!
McCain wanted to pick abortion rights Sen. Joe Lieberman as his running mate, but then switched when the anti-abortion Republican base threw a fit about the idea. Would a maverick go against his first choice for VP to satisfy the far right-wingers in his party? The McCain campaign claims that Palin is a maverick as well. Palin doesn’t support the “bridge to nowhere.” But they forgot to mention that she was for the “bridge to nowhere” before she was against it.
They are allegedly going to clean up pork-barrel spending. But they forgot to mention that when Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, she hired a consultant to get her town $27 million in pork-barrel spending. Also, during her term as governor of Alaska, she has requested $750 million dollars in pork, which is the highest per-capita of any state in the country.
They even switched their campaign theme from experience to change. Thanks, but I will be voting for Barack Obama. He got it right the first time.
