FORT WAYNE — A raw turnip that triggered a bomb scare when it arrived in the mail may have been sent as a message, said the lawyer who was supposed to receive it.\nThe turnip, which was delivered Thursday to Haller & Colvin Attorneys at Law, may have been an attempt to say “you can’t get blood from a turnip,” attorney Mark GiaQuinta said.\nThe sender is being sued by one of GiaQuinta’s clients and is known to be “volatile,” the lawyer said.\nGiaQuinta joked that he was “now on constant alert against this and other rooted vegetables.”\nA law firm employee called 911 after opening a U.S. Postal Service box and finding a suspicious gift bag inside, police said.\nOfficers brought in a robot to carry the package to a parking lot, where technicians tried to detonate it with a water cannon. After that, they opened the box and found the turnip, wrapped in lettuce-green tissue paper inside a sandwich bag.
