New security director takes office

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana’s Department of Homeland Security has a new executive director.\nJoseph E. Wainscott Jr. began his duties Monday after the former director resigned to return to Purdue University.\nWainscott has been the department’s director of training since 2005. Prior to that, he was law enforcement coordinator for the U.S. Attorney’s Office Southern District of Indiana and is a 23-year veteran of the Indiana State Police.\nWainscott, who grew up in Madison County, is now responsible for the state’s emergency management and homeland security efforts.\nWainscott takes over for J. Eric Dietz, a retired Army colonel who resigned to return to the Purdue Homeland Security Institute as a tenured faculty member in the College of Technology.
