This year I am honored to serve as emcee for the annual Homeward Bound 5K Walk at 2 p.m. April 6, which steps off at Third Street Park. The issue of homelessness in this community is critical for many reasons. Seventeen percent of homeless people in Bloomington are children under the age of 18. More than 20,000 citizens of the more than 120,000 residents of Monroe County live below the federal poverty level. On any given day, there are more than 200 people residing in homeless shelters in Bloomington. To learn more about the good work of Homeward Bound, please visit: www.homewardboundindiana.org. Team involvement is important to the success of the Homeward Bound fund-raiser, and I urge my fellow citizens to gather with friends and do your part. You can register and fund raise online, or come to the event to experience the positive energy of a caring community giving back. Feel the burn of a good walk on a beautiful spring day while you do a good thing for area nonprofits meeting this critical community need!
