It seems to me there is always one big video on the Internet that everyone is musing over. In my opinion the big video a couple of days ago was “U.S. soldier throws puppy off cliff.” Generally these videos are hysterical, but I don’t think anyone can find this funny, nor can anyone without some kind of mental disease condone this. Keep in mind animal rights aren’t one of my higher priorities, but even I felt absolutely horrified to see somebody throw a defenseless puppy off \na cliff.\nThe video could just be a sick joke – the soldier could be throwing a very life-like fake puppy. While I hate to jump to conclusions like most of the Internet community, I do believe this man should be punished if the evidence shows that he did, in fact, murder this defenseless puppy. \nAnyway, I received this video from a very liberal friend who along with the video wrote me this message: “These are the people you endorse?” So I watched the video and happened to glance through the comments as well and saw several disturbing comments. The one that bothered me most said, “Just remember that these are the people that will be coming home soon.”\nNeedless to say, I was appalled by such generalizations of our military. Horrific and atrocious people are everywhere and in every aspect of life. Look at how our nation has had to deal with “brilliant” minds who later we found out lived secret lives as serial killers. Ted Kaczynski was an exceptional student and mathematician, but grew up to become the infamous “Unabomber.” We’ve had to deal with the surfacing scandals of the Catholic priests who were violating young boys. \nThere are a lot of bad people out there, and they come from every corner of our lives. We can’t just bash our military because of the incidents at Abu Ghraib or shootings of civilians. Yes, these things are terrible, but the military doesn’t sanction this behavior and most of the military does in fact behave appropriately and avoid these atrocious acts. In fact when the military does prove these atrocities are occurring, it punishes the individuals involved.\nMany conservative Republicans condemn the media for only covering the negative aspects of the war such as these mistakes. While for the most part I believe this condemnation has a strong basis, I don’t believe that the majority of the American media are opposing or hurting our troops on purpose. It’s just that they so strongly disapprove of the war, and it’s the soldiers who take the heat of their opposition.\nDon’t do as the media and let our troops be maligned because you disagree with the war. So many individuals like my friend have been carried away by the media’s negative reporting that they no longer see the hardworking, caring men and women behind the military uniform. Please, support our troops.
