The IU men’s tennis team will look to extend their winning streak Friday when they host Eastern Kentucky and in-state rival Indiana State. \nThe Hoosiers are off to an impressive start following their win at the Clemson Winter Shootout and two home victories last Friday against Cleveland State and Morehead State. \n“We finished what we set out to do,” IU coach Randy Bloemendaal said. \nSenior Thomas Richter led the Hoosiers in both of their shutouts against the Vikings and the Eagles, winning both of his matches in straight sets. \nRichter attributed his success to a positive net game and consistency throughout the entire match. Still, the Hoosiers certainly know there is room for improvement.\n“I need to work on my movement out of the corners,” Richter said. “I need to make him play my ball.”\nBloemendaal spoke positively about the energy his team brought to their matches last Friday, especially in the second match. \nJunior Peter Antons also spoke about his team’s high energy. \n“If we bring this level of energy and intensity to all our matches we can be very successful,” Antons said. “Everyone seems to play a little better.”\nThe Hoosiers are set to face Eastern Kentucky at 10 a.m., followed by Indiana State at 4 p.m. Eastern Kentucky opened its spring season last week with shutout victories against Cumberlands and Dayton.\nFollowing Friday’s matches, the Hoosiers go on the road to Iowa City, Iowa, to face the Hawkeyes on Saturday, Feb. 2 before returning home to face non-conference rival Kentucky on Feb. 5.
