Racism still a problem

Although I’m not affiliated with your fine institution, please allow me to comment on Jonathan P. Rossing’s commentary (“In Our Genes,” Oct. 25). I must say, Mr. Rossing hit the nail right on the head – and hard!\nIn this piece, he writes about how geneticist and Nobel laureate James Watson states that white folks are more intelligent than black folks. With all the racial tensions in America, Mr. Rossing questions how many high-profile eruptions of racism it takes before white folks are willing to acknowledge we have a problem. Can I add to his powerful assessment? \nWhite America’s favorite president, Ronald Reagan, managed to convince his fellow white Americans that racism is no longer a problem in our country. White folks have been waiting for this validation, especially from a president, for decades. Today, it’s hard to prove racism still exists – which is very sad, because racism is indeed very much alive and well in this great country (i.e., Jena 6, West Virginia kidnapping and rape, Imus comments, boot camp murder, Dog Chapman’s racist rants, Michael Richards, to name a few we know about).\nWhat will be the true equalizer? When our real enemies drop that nuclear bomb on America. The color of one’s skin will finally not matter, because we won’t have any skin. \nRodney King put it so simply years ago: “Can we all get along?” After all, we are all in this mess together! Thanks for listening and may God bless and protect our children and soldiers everywhere!
