Every year, Oprah reveals “My Favorite Things,” a list of what she believes are the best products and gift ideas around. This is always her most popular show, as the lucky guests all receive some of her favorite things. This year especially, a lucky group of Macon, Ga., residents seemed quite hysterical when they received these offerings from O herself. \nI’ll admit that the HDTV refrigerator with weather and info center from LG Electronics is amazing. The entertainment center’s even got LCD TV and DVD hookup. And this is all in a fridge! But other than that, Oprah’s fave things are a bit of a letdown. So, I decided to make my own favorite things list.
1. Ghostface Killah Doll\nOne of the most beloved members of the Wu-Tang Clan gets his own action figure. He’s thugged out and blinged out. However, only 1,000 dolls will be produced, and the doll comes in at a whopping $499.99 (plus shipping.) Owners also get their own 14-karat gold chain with a pendant and a 14-karat gold eagle with a diamond in it. After all, it would be a shame to have a doll with more jewelry than you.
\n2. ‘I met my daddy on Maury’ onesies\nMaury Povich has been settling paternal identity cases for what seems like centuries now. If it weren’t for him, thousands of babies’ daddies nationwide would be getting off the hook for alimony. And even more innocent bystanders would be stuck raising a child that isn’t even theirs. It only makes sense that NBC honor Maury’s significance by creating onesies for boys and girls who have met their father on his show. And they’re only $14.95!
3. Beard caps\nEveryone loves a guy in a beard. And as the weather gets colder, one cannot help but wonder if beards get chilly, too. Well, the folks at Scandinavian Grace, a Brooklyn-based store that specializes in Scandinavian imports, acted upon this possible predicament. They created what is known as a “beard cap,” which is just like any other winter beanie/toboggan, but with additional cloth to suit any bearded individual. Caps come in at $135, but aren’t they worth the warmth?
4. ‘How to Cook Everything: Simple Recipes for Great Food’ \nNew York Times food columnist Mark Bitterman is known as a minimalist. And with this book, he makes cooking anything and everything an easy and relaxed experience. In a time where home-cooked meals are becoming extinct, this book just might be the savior.
5. Reunion tour tickets\nFrom the Spice Girls to My Bloody Valentine, it seems like every influential music group out there is getting back together. Well, until they can pay off their debts. And while their reasons for reuniting are irrelevant, we should all marvel in being able to relive the past glory of our favorite artists. \nBut if you are dissatisfied with my – or Oprah’s – favorite things, never fear. It only takes a little time and effort to find the right gifts.
