Thanks to those supporting Coaches vs. Cancer

On behalf of the American Cancer Society, I would like to thank all the Hoosier basketball fans who joined us bright and early on Oct. 12 for “Opening Day with Coach Sampson,” Indiana University’s inaugural Coaches vs. Cancer event. Through their generosity and support, we were able to raise more than $49,000 to further the American Cancer Society’s mission of eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering \nfrom cancer.\nThe morning featured a presentation on cancer research being done right here in Bloomington, a moving speech from a local caregiver, comments from Coach Sampson and former players on the upcoming season and an auction of several worthwhile items. All donations help the American Cancer Society provide: 24-hour access to cancer information and support via 1-800-ACS-2345 and www.cancer.org; funds for lifesaving research; free transportation for local cancer patients needing rides to and from treatment; support for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients; and more.\nMany thanks to our event sponsors: Gary Alletto, Jim Burkhart, American Family Insurance, Grant Communications, Brian Cooke and Dr. and Mrs. George Rapp. Their generous donations helped turn “Opening Day with Coach Sampson” into a reality.\nA special thank you to all the volunteers who worked to make this event a success. We could not have done it without you.\nAgain, thank you for supporting your American Cancer Society. If you would still like to make a donation, it’s not too late. Contact us at 336-8423 to learn how. You can also contact us anytime, day or night, for cancer-related information, support and resources at 1-800-ACS-2345, or visit www.cancer.org.
