I am writing to express my strong concern about the traffic on the IU campus. Many examples might be given in this regard, but the one that I have in mind is the pedestrian crossing on Jordan Avenue and Seventh Street by the Jordan stream, close to the exit from the parking garage. Many drivers act as if this pedestrian crossing were not there. In so doing, they ignore the law and put our lives at risk. There is heavy traffic on that street at almost any hour of the day during the academic year. Moreover, the IU Student Admissions Office is located across the street and many visitors begin their campus visit in this area. Unfortunately, most of the cars do not stop even when pedestrians attempt to cross the street regularly.\nThe IUPD officers and other IU officials whom I have contacted have not been willing to address this issue properly. A more determined public response is needed to convince them that this is a serious issue. That is why I am respectfully asking for your cooperation in raising this issue and making sure that the security of pedestrians is not jeopardized before it is too late.\nAurelian Craiutu\nIU associate professor
