Regarding Chase Cooper’s column “Education or Indoctrination,” from Oct. 3, I am forced to wonder why you, the editors, would allow a column-long unpaid advertisement for a film in the IDS. Whether or not you agree with Cooper’s politics, the column concentrates on one thing and one thing only: Evan Coyne Maloney’s 2007 documentary, “Indoctrinate U.” Every quotation, every piece of information cited in the column comes from the film. As though that were not enough to constitute an advertisement, Cooper ends with the URL for the film and a call to petition the filmmakers for a screening at IUB. It’s almost like a film review, except without the review.\nNow, I don’t mean to tell the editorial staff how to do its job, but it seems to me that you could make some money at this, selling the credibility of the IDS by inserting pay-for editorials. Certainly, it would be better than giving the IDS’ credibility away for free.
