Coroner tentatively ID’s bodies found over weekend

Both victims died of gunshot wounds to the head

Monroe County Coroner David Toumey has tentatively identified two decomposed bodies found in rural Monroe County on Friday. \nThe remains were identified as Everett L. Shaw and Douglas Brown, Jr., Toumey said. Definitive identification will take four to six weeks, pending verification of the victims’ DNA by the Indiana State Police’s Laboratory Division. \nBoth men died of multiple gunshot wounds to their heads, Toumey said. \nThe bodies were recovered after a police informant told the Brown County Sheriff’s Office about a potential murder that had taken place last spring. The victims’ remains were found in two steel-drum barrels on Jerry E. Pelfree’s property, according to police. \nPelfree, 51, is facing preliminary murder charges and is being held without bond at Monroe County Jail.
