Comic shows typical whiny student behavior

I aim to dismantle the editorial comic shown in the IDS on Sept. 21 piece by piece. First of all, I am certain the same people who complain about campus construction would be first to bitch and moan about the exact opposite – an unmaintained environment with inadequate roads and other areas of disrepair. \nAs far as the “Educators who inspire ... ” part, the last time I checked this was a university, so if students still need coddling from their instructors, then they can go back to preschool and pull out a carpet square and juice box for story time. Students choose to not do their reading assignments. Do they hope to somehow leech information during discussion from the minds of students who are more responsible and more concerned about learning? School is expensive, but that does not mean students are entitled to a hands-off experience. Despite what some might expect, there is a considerable amount of work involved. \nThat brings me to the last part of the comic. The food debate has been going on for years. Students ask for trendy places like Starbucks, Pizza Hut, etc., and then when they get these services, they complain that the University does not care for their personal health. Really? Last time I checked, there were healthy dining opportunities available on campus, so if you find yourself eating Twinkies and Pizza Hut every day, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Appreciate the fact that the University cares enough about the campus to maintain it, read your damn expensive books, eat well and take ownership of some of your daily decisions rather than try to find ways to blame IU.
