David Baker to perform tomorrow at Bear’s Place

Show kicks off 18th year of Jazz Fables series

The Jazz Fables Concert Series will be featuring the sounds of Distinguished Professor of Music David Baker tomorrow night at Bear’s Place. The event, which celebrates the 18th Anniversary of the concert series, will feature Baker playing cello on his own compositions and arrangements, along with other jazz faculty and alumni from the jazz studies program. The music will begin at 5:30 p.m. and there is a $7 cover charge.\nGrammy-nominated musician, Baker is the founder and chairman of the jazz department at IU, and in March, was awarded the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ “Living Jazz Legend Award” for lifetime achievement. He received both his bachelor’s and master’s degree from IU, and has composed more than 2,000 compositions, including jazz and symphonic works, chamber music and ballet and film scores, according to his Web site. \nThe Jazz Fables Concert Series features different musicians every Thursday evening at Bear’s Place. Next Thursday, The Caswell Sisters Quintet will play. The group features Sara Caswell on violin and Rachel Caswell on vocals. Both are IU jazz studies alums and recording artists in New York. Cover charge for the event is $6.
