IMU Executive Director’s appointment ‘shameful,’ but fortunate

Union Board President Sarah McDonough’s article (“No student input for the IMU Executive Director,” June 27) was wholly warranted. It is shameful that the IU administration did not include students in the process of appointing a new director of the Indiana Memorial Union. Most disappointing of all though is that IU students were deprived the opportunity to welcome new IMU Director Bruce Jacobs – who is one of the most sincere, effective and valuable members of the IU community – into his new role with the excitement and honor that he is due. He is a great champion of students and will be a phenomenal IMU director. My hope is that Sarah’s articulate and passionate article will bring light to the receding respect paid to student input in campus decision-making and also that she will soon have the opportunity to meet and work with Bruce Jacobs, so that she is reassured that students have emerged winners from this messy situation. Congratulations, Bruce! And good luck.
