Man arrested after choking girlfriend

Martin McCormick, 25, was arrested June 10 for battery and strangulation. \nAccording to a police report, McCormick got into an argument with his girlfriend over a pack of cigarettes. When his girlfriend could not find his cigarettes, he became upset with her, backed her into a corner and began to choke her, BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from a police report.\nThe victim told police that she could not breathe, so she hit him in the head to get him off of her. McCormick drew back to punch her in the face, but she ducked and he punched a hole in the wall. The victim then fled the apartment.\nWhen police arrived, the victim had red marks on her chest and throat area. McCormick had fled the area but was found nearby. McCormick stated he had been drinking and that his girlfriend began the argument. When asked whether or not he choked her, he replied, "I very well could have, but I don’t know." \n \nMen arrested after toddlers bite each other

Two Bloomington men were arrested for battery Monday after two 3-year-olds began to bite each other, causing a fight to break out between the adults who were watching them, BPD Sgt. Jeff Canada said, reading from a police report.\nMatthew Cooper, 28, and Jeff Robertson, 41, face preliminary battery charges.\nAccording to police reports, Cooper’s son and another 3-year-old toddler were playing on the 2300 block of Winslow Court when the men got into an argument and began fighting. Cooper took the victim, pushed him out the door and told him to go home. One of the toddlers began to flail around, and he hit his head on the door frame, Canada said, reading from the report.\nThe victim went home and told his mother what happened. Officer Paul Post arrived at the scene, and while he was talking to the victim’s mother, there was a commotion, and he noticed Robertson, who is the victim’s grandfather, punching Cooper. Officer Post separated them, and they were arrested for battery.

Man arrested for attempted robbery

Ryan Barker, 19, was arrested Tuesday for attempted robbery of the Village Pantry, 275 E. Winslow Rd. \nAt around 3:20 a.m., police dispatch received a call about an attempted robbery at the convenience store, Canada said. Officer Daniel Coons was first to arrive and received a description of the incident from the clerk. \nOfficer Harris was in the area when he located Barker in the area surrounding Henderson Street and Mormon Street Pike. Barker met the description of the robber, and Harris took him into custody. \nBarker said he was not the robber and that another suspect who matched the same description rode by him on a bike. Canada said a witness who was at the Village Pantry said he followed Barker out of the store and told the officers that he saw the whole thing and they had the correct person.\nBarker told Harris he was moving into a new apartment complex with his girlfriend and that he needed $250 before he could move in.

Woman charged with attempt at armed robbery

At 11:40 p.m. June 12, a woman attempted to rob the Marathon Gas Station, 1705 N. Kinser Pike. \nAccording to a police report, the station’s female clerk was in the back of the store when a woman walked up behind her and demanded she go to the cash register and give her all the money in it. The suspect had her hand in her pocket and told the clerk she had a gun, Canada said. \nThe clerk refused to give the suspect any money and told her to leave the store. She then grabbed a pair of tin snips and chased the suspect out of the store. A witness said the suspect got into an old station wagon with wood panels.\nCanada said they had leads on the suspect but wanted to follow up on it Tuesday.\nDetective Richard Hunter was informed that the suspect, Marianne Owens, 27, had been located and charged with one count of attempted armed robbery, said BPD Captain of Detectives Joseph Qualters on Wednesday.
