WFIU hosts ‘This American Life’ advance screening

The televised version of the public-radio hit “This American Life” will be shown 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Radio and Television Building room 251. The event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by WFIU and the Indiana Daily Student.\n“This American Life” follows host Ira Glass as he travels around the country for six months. Some of his encounters include Iowa pig farms, a first-time filmmaker in California and a hot-dog stand in Illinois.\nThe Chicago Public Radio series, from which the Showtime TV episodes were inspired, was created in 1995 by Glass as a way of telling stories. It has since grown to have a weekly listening audience of 1.7 million and plays on over 500 stations nationally, according to Showtime’s Web site.\nThe show is scheduled to premiere Thursday at 10:30 p.m. on Showtime, but the sneak preview will give the opportunity for students and locals to view it a day in advance.\nFor more information, visit www.wfiu.org.
