Pat Haley, the Republican incumbent running for re-election for Monroe County recorder, says the focus of her campaign is keeping technology up-to-date. She said that during her three terms as recorder, she has "worked diligently to bring record-keeping up to modernization" and plans to continue doing so. \nThe Bloomington native said the most important aspect of her campaign is keeping the current technology in the recorder's office "up with the times." She said she strives to keep technology modern while making it accessible to everyone. \nThough many might not realize it, Haley said her office can be beneficial to students on the IU campus.\nThe office holds military, student real estate and small business records. Haley said many students have small businesses in corporations such as eBay and other computer companies and that it is important that these students have their businesses' names filed with the recorder's office because most financial institutions will refuse to cash checks unless the business name is on file.\nShe said she is also a strong believer in treating each person who walks into the office equally and expects her staff to do the same. She said her goal is to do her best to help each person find whatever it is he or she needs.\nHaley also served two consecutive terms as Monroe County clerk. During that time, she worked with a computer programmer to develop a computer system for record-keeping at IU. Haley said this, along with her extensive track record, will provide her with an understanding of the current systems the recorder's office uses, should she be re-elected.
