The Student Accounting Society will hold an informal recruiting event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Briscoe Tennis Courts at the intersection of Jordan Avenue and Fee Lane.\nThe cookout event is the fall kickoff for the SA.g will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Kelley School of Business. The meeting will give interested students the chance to learn more about the SAS and how they can get involved as a member.\nTo become an active member, students must regularly attend presentations and several of the group's social and community service events. \nThe $20 annual membership fee covers food at every meeting and social events. The officers are still working to name the exact membership requirements and will announce them at the mass meeting Wednesday, Dressel said.\nWeekly presentations are held at 7 p.m. each Wednesday throughout the year in the Kelley School of Business. A more precise location will be announced next week. At each meeting, representatives from various accounting firms hold presentations discussing a variety of issues and concerns facing the accounting industry. Previous presentations at SAS events have been made by representatives from the big four accounting firms, several middle market and local firms, faculty members and other non-accounting presenters, according to the SAS Web site.\n"We have presentations on different career paths -- etiquette, interviewing skills, the CPA exam, etc. -- that are all topics not really covered in class and have a personal perspective of a professional," Dressel said.\nThe weekly presentations give members the chance to learn about the accounting field, network with important individuals in the business arena and enjoy food and drinks.\n"It is very informal and a great way to talk on a personal level with the professionals and get to know other students," she said.\nIn the past, the group has usually had about 30 active members, but many people often come to events to hear companies make presentations about accounting topics or other areas of interest, Dressel said. The officers hope to see their membership number grow.\n"We are actually putting a big effort out this year to expand the club, as well as the active membership, and are striving to have high SAS officer involvement," she said. "We are especially trying to get more freshmen and sophomores involved."\nFor more information, visit the group's Web site, www.indiana.edu/~sas.
