Student has surgery after attack in Foster

Police search underway for two male suspects

A victim of an "unprovoked" aggravated assault in Foster Quad last week underwent reconstructive surgery Monday and applied for a medical withdrawal from IU, according to an IU Police Department press release.\nThe victim, a 19-year-old IU student, suffered injuries to his ankle and head after two men assaulted him and another 18-year-old man, in the north stairwell of Foster Magee. The two victims said the attack was unprovoked, and that they did not know the suspects.\n"At the time of the incident the seriousness of (the victim's) injuries were not readily apparent, but after a medical evaluation he was determined to have a broken left ankle and suffered a concussion," said IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger in a press release.\nAccording to the press release, the student may also need extensive oral surgery and dental work because of the assault, and his family expects the medical bills to exceed $15,000.\nWhen IUPD officers responded to the assault at about 4 a.m. on April 28, the suspects had already fled. The victims said both of the suspects were college-aged males. They said one of the men wore black jeans and a black T-shirt. They said he had dark, curly hair with possible blond highlights. They described the other suspect as either Hispanic or a "light-skinned" black male. They said he was short and wore an earring. They said his eyebrows were "waxed, like a girl."\nPolice drew composites based on the two descriptions. Minger urged anyone who may have information on the two suspects or the case to call the IUPD at 855-4111 and speak to a detective.
