In New York City anything can happen, even in as short of a distance as 16 Blocks. With that in mind, one would think that "16 Blocks" would be a non-stop action packed thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the very end. Sometimes we aren't always correct in our assumptions. \n "16 Blocks," the newest Bruce Willis action movie, was very inconsistent in it's attempt to give audiences what they want.\nWillis stars as detective Jack Mosely who thought today was going to be like any other day at work. Unfortunately this alcoholic was dead wrong. Hung over and yearning for more booze, Mosely is told to transport Eddie Bunker (Mos Def), a fast talking prisoner, from jail to the courthouse so he can testify as a witness in a major case. In the process of doing so Mosely makes a stop at a liquor store thinking nothing could go wrong, but instead of drinking his way to a good time he and Bunker end up running for their lives. Along the way Mosely finds out that not only are they running from danger, but his colleagues and the rest of the NYPD are the ones chasing them.\n"16 Blocks" was directed by famed action director Richard Donner, the man notorious for the "Lethal Weapon" series. However, Donner doesn't quite live up to his directing reputation because "16 Blocks" lacks the excitement and suspense created in most of his previous films. Though the film features some exciting action early on, the film becomes quite tedious towards the end because it involves more dialogue and anticipation for a resolution than normal.\nOne part of the movie that did exceed expectations though is the acting job by Mos Def. Rappers usually don't put forth great acting performances, but Mos Def did a wonderful job supporting a major star like Willis. It's not easy to match a great actor like Willis but Mos Def comes pretty close.\nWhile "16 Blocks" had many key elements that make a great movie, like an interesting story and strong acting, it lacked in excitement, screenplay and music. With a few moderations, "16 Blocks" could have been another superb movie to credit Willis' illustrious career, but as it stands the film is nothing more than another mediocre action flick.
