Dr. McDreamy, cast deliver

Brandon Foltz

Before this past weekend, I had only seen three episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" and those episodes were at the recommendation of some of my girl friends. I think they got sick of me calling every Sunday night at 10 p.m. to recap my weekend.\nAfter seeing those, I was feeling a little left behind and out of the loop, so I finally broke down and bought the first season on DVD. Huge mistake because after I watched one episode I was hooked and spent the entire weekend engulfed in the smart hospital drama, instead of studying for my tests. I also got the soundtrack while I was out, I couldn't resist. \nThe show is based around five first-year surgical interns at Seattle Grace Hospital. The main character, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) gives insightful voice-overs at the beginning and ending of each episode to give viewers a feel for what the moral of each episode should be. Oddly enough, one of the major anatomy books most medical students have is Gray's Anatomy. Even though Meredith's last name is Grey, I think this connection is a little more then a coincidence. \nSeason one of "Grey's," which only has nine episodes, begins with the interns first day at Seattle Grace. From the first minute of episode one, I was hooked. (Who wouldn't be with Patrick Dempsey's, aka Dr. McDreamy, cute naked butt shown in the first minute.) These attendings, residents and interns aren't like any doctors I have come into contact with. \nOne of the major appeals of the show and DVD set is that it presents these characters in a relatable fashion. They have romantic relationship problems, work problems and roommate problems. Yet all the while, they are witty, smart and attractive. Don't we all wish this was our reality?\nFor those who are completely obsessed with "Grey's," this DVD rental or purchase will not be a mistake. There are a number of great DVD features, inlcuding my favorites, "Under the Knife," which is a behind the scenes look at how "Grey's" went from a pilot to a regular show on ABC and "Anatomy of a Pilot," which features roughly 10 scenes that were cut from the first episode. The DVD also includes five extra scenes from other episodes and optional actor, director and producer commentary.\nFor those of you who can't get enough every Sunday night or even for those who are foreign to the show, the first season of "Grey's" and the extras will keep you coming back for more.
