The Jacobs School of Music, renamed in November after receiving the largest single gift from an individual donor of $40.6 million, will celebrate its new identity with a naming ceremony and concert at 4 p.m. Friday in Auer Hall.\nIU President Adam W. Herbert will provide opening remarks for the event, and son of donors Barbara B. and David H. Jacobs, David H. Jacobs Jr., will attend as well as Jacobs School of Music Dean, Gwyn Richards, according to a press release.\nThe concert, which is open to the public, is a social gathering, said Alain Barker, director of marketing and publicity for Jacobs School of Music.\n"It's a historic event for the School of Music," he said. "It's the beginning of a new era for us."\nHe said the concert marks the beginning of Bloomington's ArtsWeek and \nprecedes the world premiere of the opera "Our Town," which will open 8 p.m. Friday in the Musical Arts Center.\nPrior to the opera at 5 p.m., Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan and IU Interim Provost Michael McRobbie will speak at a reception, also open to the public in the Musical Arts Center lobby.\nFor more information on Jacobs School of Music events visit www.music.indiana.edu/events/.
