It's bad enough that the movie starts out in a slump as Alyson Hannigan dances around seductively in a fat suit to the song "Milkshake," but what's even worse is that from that point on, the movie doesn't get any better. If you saw the commercials for this movie, you might remember that it's from two of the six writers of "Scary Movie." Well, that doesn't necessarily make it funny. \nThe movie is a parody of date movies, mocking films like "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" to "Meet the Parents" and "Meet the Fockers." Julia Jones (Hannigan) is a lot like Bridget Jones; she's a young woman who is, I'll put it nicely, a bit heavy and looking for love. Jones seeks the help of Lil' Hitch (played by "Bad Santa's" Tony Cox) to find her match. After Hitch pimps her out (a mock of the MTV show "Pimp My Ride") Julia is able to catch the eye of Grant Fonckyerdoder (played by newcomer Adam Campbell), and the two fall in love and plan to marry. However, there's one thing in the way: Grant's studding former fiancé Andy (Sophie Monk).\nWith a short running time "Date Movie" feels a lot longer than it is. The jokes in the movie were barely funny and I found most of the comedy raunchy. The movie, which is supposed to be a parody of other films, included some scenes that were nothing but exact recreations of already existing scenes. The acting was bland and it's likely anyone could have starred in this film and the end results would have remained the same. Hannigan is ordinary as Julia, someone who has never dated before and is just looking for that special someone. Eddie Griffin plays Julia's father, who is much like the father in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." I found his part to be annoying and he probably could have been left out from some scenes. \nTo me, the best part of the movie was when Napoleon Dynamite (played by Josh Myers, not the original Jon Heder) appeared for a mere 30-seconds wearing a "Don't vote for Pedro" T-shirt. Now that must say something about the movie. \nIf you were planning on seeing this movie, I would recommend taking your money and spending on something far more worthwhile and waiting for the DVD release, which I still wouldn't recommend. All in all the film was just terrible and a big disappointment.
A 'Date' to be stood up
