House mom arrested for sorority theft

A sorority "house mom" was arrested Wednesday on preliminary felony charges of stealing prescription drugs from a house member, according to IU Police reports.\nAccording to the report, officers arrested Janet Morgan on a preliminary charge of theft. Morgan was the Phi Mu sorority house director during the summer when a house member reported two bottles of prescription drugs had been stolen from her room. \nOn Aug. 23, a 20-year-old member of the Phi Mu sorority reported missing two bottles of prescription medication she had placed in her closet two days before, the report states. The woman said she had been given permission to move her belongings into the house on Aug. 21. \nAccording to the report, she left the house and didn't return until two days later when the house opened to residents. Only Morgan and the house president, Meredith Higgins, were reportedly living in the house during those two days. \nThe report states the woman said a bottle of about 20 pills of the pain killer, Darvocet, and eight milliliters of cough medicine, Codaclear, were missing when she returned.\nHiggins said in the report that Morgan had been hired as the house director this summer. \nMorgan told police she had experience as a "house mom" at several other greek houses. \nAccording to IUPD reports, investigators received information from an informant with whom Morgan had confided. Morgan admitted guilt to the informant, and the informant told the police, the report stated. \nMorgan was fired from her position soon after IUPD contacted the sorority, the victim said in an e-mail. She added that she planned to press charges against Morgan when she receives more information about Morgan's involvement in the theft. \nMorgan and Higgins were unavailable for comment at press time.
