The Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships provided few bright spots for the IU men's tennis team. One of those bright spots was the stellar play by the team's top doubles pair of seniors Neil Kenner and Dmytro Ishtuganov. Seeded No. 12 in the doubles draw, the duo reached the quarterfinals but lost a tight 9-8 (5) set to the top-seeded, No. 19 ranked team of Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafssen from Louisville.\n"We still have some work to do, but Neil and Dmytro competed well," said IU coach Ken Hydinger. "They still have room to grow, but that was the number one seed in the tournament, and they played them tight. They keep getting better with every match."\nKenner and Ishtuganov didn't have nearly the amount of success at singles. Kenner lost his first round match to the No. 108 ranked player in the nation, Brett Helgeson of Notre Dame, 6-4 6-2. Ishtuganov also lost in a tough three-set match, 6-3 1-6 3-6, to the third-seed Matko Maravic of Michigan, ranked No. 42 nationally.\nSophomore Dara McLoughlin was the lone Hoosier to record a victory in the main singles draw. After trouncing Marc Spicijaric of Illinois in straight sets, 6-3 7-5, McLoughlin was ousted by No. 24 seed Ross Wilson of Ohio State, 6-2 6-3.\nSophomore Michael McCarthy also flew through the qualifying draw by winning three consecutive matches. However, his stay was short lived as he lost to No. 16 seed Christian Tempke of Northwestern, 6-0 7-6 (7). Junior David Bubenicek had his four-match unbeaten streak snapped in the first round of the main draw, losing to the No. 8 seed Jose Orozco of Western Michigan, 6-2 5-7 6-7 (3).\nThe IU tandem of freshman Peter Antons and Bubenicek defeated the No. 15 seed Minnesota team, 8-5, but lost to the Chicago pair of Prabojo and Prakoso Imanuel in the second round, 8-6. McLoughlin and McCarthy were also ousted by the No. 5 seeded Ohio State team, 8-3\nThe Hoosiers will return to action at the Big Ten Singles Championships, Nov. 11 to 14 in East Lansing, Mich.
