An IU student injured in a motorcycle crash Sunday evening has been airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where he is in critical condition, according to IU Police Department reports. \nEric Butte, 21, was riding his 1993 Honda 600 motorcycle south through the Herman B Wells library parking lot at 7:48 p.m. Sunday when he collided with a northbound 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a female student, said IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger. \nWitnesses said they heard the motorcycle make a noise like it was accelerating before it hit the right front of the female's vehicle as she was making a left turn into a row of parking spaces, Minger said. \nButte was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe facial injuries, Minger said. Butte was taken to Bloomington Hospital and then taken via helicopter to Methodist Hospital, said Sgt. Andy Stephenson, who was at the scene. As of Monday morning, the hospital reported Butte was in critical condition, Stephenson said. \nThe other student and her female passenger were unharmed in the accident.
