Incoming IU students wanting to get involved with athletics don't have to be stuck in the stands. Early next week, registration begins for intramural sports, which offer more than 13 different activities for every kind of sportsman or woman. \n"We offer equal opportunity to everyone," said Satoshi Kido, assistant director for intramural sports. "Our philosophy is everyone should be able to have equal opportunity to play sports at IU."\nRegistration for one of the most popular intramural sports, flag football, will be held Sept. 6 and 7.\nTennis and golf leagues will also hold registration the same days. If whiffleball, volleyball or billiards are more of a fit, registration for these sports will take place Sept. 20.\nAlso this semester, the Division of Recreational Sports is offering ultimate frisbee and indoor soccer, as well as non-traditional activities, like capture the flag and Halloween euchre, all of which begin Oct. 4. \nBeginning Nov. 15, RecSports will offer baseball and dodgeball.\nBasketball, one of Indiana's favorite pastimes, will round out the first semester. Although it doesn't begin until the week after Thanksgiving, it is hands-down the most enrolled-in league in intramural sports at IU. \nFor all team sports, individuals can either choose to be placed randomly on a team or can get their own team together and register. \nIn addition, the team captains must attend a mandatory captain's meeting before their team can begin playing.\n"We encourage everyone who wants to play to come down here and sign up," Kido said. "We're not just about sports, but also about making friendships for people and are very excited about the upcoming year." \nTo sign up for any of the intramural sports listed, call 855-8788 or stop by Room 115 in the Student Recreational Sports Center. \nThe cost for each activity varies and can be found on the RecSports Web site at www.recsports.indiana.edu.
